Key Trip Information

Join a small group of fun, like-minded vegan adventurers on the legendary South West Coast Path, hiking one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world, complete with some spectacularly spicy hills that make you feel heroic and earn you your vegan cream tea.

You’ll follow dramatic clifftops past hidden coves most tourists never see, wander through one of England’s most precious wildlife corridors (hello wild ponies, mountain goats and seabirds), and visit the breathtaking open-air Minack Theatre perched above the turquoise waters of Porthcurno Bay.

Day 1: Arrive St Ives Cornwall

We’ll be meeting at our hotel this afternoon and you’ll have time to Explore all that St Ives has to offer, including some fantastic art and crafts shops, wonderful cafes and restaurants and of course the beautiful beaches, taste testing a small bag of delicious Cornish vegan fudge is recommended! There will be a briefing about the week ahead before a delicious group dinner to fuel up for the adventure ahead.

A coastal town with sandy beaches, people enjoying the shoreline, clustered buildings, and a harbor, all under a partly cloudy sky.

Day 2: St Ives To Zennor

Hiking: 8 miles / 12.8 km

Highlights: Fantastic coastal views

Get your vegan hiking boots ready, we’re off! A gentle walk out of St Ives to Clodgy Point soon becomes a roller coaster of hills as the Coast Path plunges down towering cliffs into beautiful coves and back up again as we hike toward Zennor.

The landscape today is beautifully wild and rugged and the area around the small village of Zennor is known as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Today’s hike will finish in Zennor where we’ll have some time to look around before taking a transfer back to our hotel in St Ives for a well-deserved rest and another great group dinner.

A narrow dirt path stretches along a grassy coastal cliff, overlooking the sea under a partly cloudy sky. A person walks on the path in the distance.

Day 3: Zennor To Pendeen

Highlights: Coves & lighthouses

After a hearty vegan breakfast and transfer back to Zennor we’ll start our hike with fantastic views from Zennor Head to Portheras Cove below, keep an eye out for dolphins!

Today we’ll journey through one of Cornwall’s most illustrious mining areas, where the miners worked in tunnels deep under the seabed to extract the ore. The landscape today is littered with stunning rock formations and a multitude of archaeological remains from all periods of history.

We’ll hike past the Pendeen Lighthouse which opened in 1900 to aid ships along what is said to be one of the most dangerous stretches of coast in Britain before finishing our day having a stroll around the village of Pendeen and later heading back to our lovely hotel in St. Ives!

Aerial view of rocky cliffs with buildings above a sandy beach and turquoise sea, surrounded by greenery under a partly cloudy sky.

Day 4: Pendeen To Sennan Cove

Hiking: 9.5 miles / 15 km

Highlights: Golden sands of Sennan Cove

Our hike today takes us along the rugged paths of the Granite Coast to the beautiful sweep of golden sand at Sennen Cove. Taking in part of Cornwall’s oldest mining district and leading around Cape Cornwall where the Atlantic currents split, the path is a mixture of easy open walking along the high cliff tops and short, rough ascents and descents finishing with a walk in the sand dunes or along the beach to Sennan Cove, a thriving village with artists and the most westerly town in the UK!

A coastal village with white houses sits beside a curved sandy beach and blue sea, with hills and scattered homes in the background.

Day 5: Sennan Cove To Porthcurno

Hiking: 6.5 mile / 10.5 km

Highlights: Reaching Land’s End

Today’s hike is a particularly beautiful section of Coast Path as we hike along high cliffs and exposed, windswept heath, on a clear day, there are fantastic views across the sea out to Wolf Rock Lighthouse and the Isles of Scilly as we head toward Lands End, Britain’s most south-westerly point!

Birds such as fulmars, shags, rock pipits and occasional peregrine falcons can be seen along this stretch and the incredible geological formations, including offshore rock stacks and rippling cliffs, as well as the natural land-bridge of Tol-Pedn-Penwith at Gwennap Head, add to the sheer drama of the landscape, undoubtedly some of the best of the entire Coast Path.

View of a rocky coastline with a rectangular tidal pool, people walking along paths, green vegetation, and ocean waves under a hazy sky.

Day 6: Porthcurno To Lamorna

Hiking: 5.4 miles / 8.7 km

Highlights: Visit to the Minack Theatre & Gardens

You’re in for a treat this morning with a visit to the world-famous Minack theatre! The Minack Theatre is an open-air theatre carved into a granite cliff and set in glorious gardens overlooking the spectacular panorama of Porthcurno Bay. After visiting the theatre and gardens we’ll continue our hike toward Lamorna.

Undulating hills mixed with rocky beaches and later wooded inland areas make today’s hike challenging and exciting in equal measures!

A coastal village with white houses sits beside a curved sandy beach and blue sea, with hills and scattered homes in the background.

Day 7: Lamorna To Penzance

Hiking: 6.1 miles / 9.8 km

Our last hiking day begins in the sub-tropical cove of Lamorna and passes through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Path changes quite dramatically as it crosses rugged cliffs, with some challenging ascents and descents as we hike into the pretty town of Mousehole known for its tiny harbour and narrow streets of granite cottages, the perfect spot for a coffee stop!

We’ll finish today’s adventure in the lively town of Penzance, the largest town in West Cornwall, famous for its historic port, and wide range of independent shops, cafes and galleries.

Day 8: Depart St Ives Cornwall

Time to head home after an amazing week’s hiking the southwest coast path in England but this might not be the end of your journey, maybe you’ll join a coast-to-coast hike in Costa Rica next or summit some volcanoes in Guatemala!

If you’re travelling from London or elsewhere in the UK, the simplest option is to take a direct train to St Ives via St Erth in Cornwall. The journey takes you from city to countryside to coastline, ending with one of the prettiest little branch-line train journeys in England as you roll right into St Ives by the sea.

If you’re coming from the USA or Canada or elswehre internationally, you have the option to fly into Newquay Airport (NQY), from there it’s about a 50-minute transfer to St Ives by taxi.

Either way, you’ll end up stepping straight into a cute, Cornish coastal town ready for clifftop hikes, sea air and vegan pasties, exactly how a proper vegan adventure holiday should begin!

This England trip is rated intermediate, which means you don’t need to be an ultra-athlete, but you do need to be on friendly terms with hills… lots of them.

The South West Coast Path is famous for its relentless up-and-down profile: every beautiful hidden cove comes with a leg-burning descent, and every jaw-dropping clifftop view is earned with a spicy climb back out.

The terrain is varied enough to keep things interesting: grassy clifftops, rocky coastal paths, sandy stretches and winding trails through little villages.

Summer hiking in England is wonderfully unpredictable which is part of the charm!

You can expect average daytime temperatures of around 15–22°C (59–72°F), with warmer days occasionally reaching 24–26°C (75–79°F) when the sun really shows off.

Most of the time it’s ideal hiking weather: not too hot, not too cold, just right for climbing hills without melting. That said, this is England… so you might get sunshine, sea mist, a light shower and a rainbow all in the same afternoon — basically four seasons, one hike, and a very good excuse to pack a waterproof.

The cost of this trip is US$2600 per person on a shared accommodation basis.

There is limited private room availability, you will receive more information after booking.

No! This trip is hotel based so your main luggage will stay in the room for the week, all you have to carry is your day bag.

A reasonable base level of fitness is required, comfortably being able to hike 5-10 miles for example is a good indicator of required base-level fitness.

Variable! The weather in the UK is famously variable although late summer temperatures should be around 17-18 C / mid-lower 60s F.

Absolutely! Around 75% of Vegan Adventure Holidays guests are single travellers, everybody is welcome.

Yes! It’s recommended to get a policy that covers trip and flight cancellations and should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, and evacuation/repatriation. Safetywing and World Nomad have good policies.
